Life In Limbo Land

Ok. So, in keeping with the happier times I’m living in right now, I wanted to tell you guys a little about what happens when you live in a hotel room with two adult kids, two dogs — Jake, the German Shepherd and Suzy, the rat terrier, and two cats — Milo, a long-haired orange tabby that loves his mommy, and Sebastian, the Siamese cat who allows me to buy his love, but is sure he was destined for the finer things in life, and this stupid hotel room ain’t it.

First, DJ stuck his hand in the junk drawer in between the beds, searching for change to buy his mom a coke, and accidentally tazered himself. Once we were sure that he was actually okay, we couldn’t stop laughing. You should have seen his face. It was priceless.

I tend to always feel hot, so I keep the thermostat down to freezer temperatures. Rebekkah sneaks behind me and turns on the heater. We have a Thermo-War going on around here every night. I get a lot of exercise just getting up in the middle of the night and adjusting the temperature. I’m guessing Rebekkah is getting the same amount of exercise.

Jake has Separation Anxiety Disorder that is exasperated by strangers. So, every time the maids come in to clean, he sits in my lap. He’s way too big to fit comfortably, so I have scratches and bruises on my legs from his anxiety attacks. Lord, how I love that dog!!!

Suzy, who was really Chef’s dog, has transferred all of her love to Rebekkah. Earlier today, Rebekkah was eating Chinese food and spilled sweet and sour sauce all of herself and Suzy. They were actually stuck together…Gross!

Milo has a lot of hair. His hair is all over everything. When we lived in a house, I could vacuum and wash things as needed, but that isn’t working so well in this little beaker we are living in. So, I’ve spent a fortune on hair removal rollers. Still, he’s a snuggle bunny and I think the trade-off is worth it.

Sebastian is a Siamese cat, and as such, he’s pretty sure he’s been placed incorrectly with us. He lets me pet him and love on him for about 15 minutes a day, and only after I offer him a few bites of whatever it is I’m eating. He keeps trying to make a dash for freedom, but he hasn’t figured out the elevator yet. I’m thinking it’s only a matter of time though. He’s one really smart cat.

So, life is chaotic here in Limbo Land, but there is a lot of laughter again, peace abounds, and we’re all being drawn closer to the Lord. It is all going to work out. I don’t know how, but I do have faith!

  3. Our family had our turn at motel living last year around this time. We only had one pet, but there were 4 kids plus us. We ate tons of frozen food and take out. It was a hard time for us, but it produced some of the best memories.

May God bless and keep you.

  4. God bless you and your precious family (furry ones included!) during these days of close quarters. I’m reading in Job and just came to this verse . . .”When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold” Job 23:10. You’re golden, Catherine! 🙂 love and prayers!

  5. Ooh! Ooh! I just remembered:
A friend of mine lived where the army told them there might be undiscovered land mines buried on their property (from it being a training post before or during WWII). So, the Army had to go over their entire property, (VERY dangerous) including under their house, with metal detectors, or something, while my friend and her family lived in a motel. She had two little ones and was EXTREMELY pregnant. And, yes, the baby came during her time of testing in a motel, and yes, the midwife came to a motel to deliver it, and THINGS COULD BE WORSE, YOU KNOW!!!!! 😀

  6. Laughter is like medicine and can cure depression better than pills. I spent only a few nights in a motel with a friend and her 3 Salukis and 4 Italian greyhounds, so know a little of what it’s like living in a zoo. I love the image of Jake trying to sit in your lap. I used to look after a friend’s dog – part golden retriever and part collie – and she used to think she could sit in my lap. Yeah, right! Her front paws would be on my shoulders along with her head and her back legs were somewhere in the middle of the room. 🙂 Glad you are able to laugh again. God bless you all.

  7. Ok I have been out of the loop a bit I knew that you thought you might be getting divorced but now I find you are in a motel.
Been there done that. Ok so here is my question. What can be done to help. If you want to privatize the answer to this question. Look me up on facebook.com/thoughtsofachristianman
