One of the things that I always shake my head at is the concept that Jesus wants us to have everything we want and for us to lead happy, quiet Noodle Salad lives until we finally die and go to heaven. We should all have

mansions, drive expensive sports cars, have large bank accounts, and volunteer to feed the poor once a month. We should go to church each week, and sit proudly with our very well-mannered, overly groomed offspring, and beam proudly, yet humbly, as we listen to yet another sermon about tithing so we can build another youth center for troubled youth. Seriously?
No where in the Bible does He promise this, which is why the Prosperity Gospel makes me want to gag. Jesus promises us that He’ll take care of our needs, and He does occasionally surprise us with a real want, but that isn’t what Christianity is all about. He also promised us we’d be treated like He was, and He was not treated like a God and King. He was always being set up by the Pharisees. He was mocked, derided, spit on, imprisoned, tortured, and crucified. Even his own friends let him down. Talk about alone..He was probably the loneliest guy to ever live on the earth. His apostles were treated pretty much the same way. Where was this prosperity crap back then? I’ll bet the matyrs in Foxe’s Book of Martyrs would be really annoyed that they missed out on this game-changing revelation.
What I have found in my own life is that no matter what kind of hurricane is swarming around me, inside, I can be as peaceful as a sweet breeze through a quiet meadow. Peace and happiness come from inside me, through my knowledge and trust in my God, and tend to not be at all related to the circus show that tends to be my life on a daily basis. Trust me. I haven’t even begun to delve in the problems that show up in my house on a daily basis!!
The Christians that I tend to listen to, respect, and admire, are the ones that the Noodle Salad crowd would automatically reject. Hal Lindsey. He has been married and divorced, as a Christian, mind you..four or five times. The man just can’t get this marriage thing down. But I’ve listened to every thing he has come out with, and it checks out. I check EVERYTHING against the Holy Spirit and the Bible..In my own life, the Christians that have the most scars, scrapes, and horrifying stories are the ones I admire…They’re thrown off their proverbial horses on a daily basis, but they keep getting back up. They are the dangers to satan’s kingdom. I simply don’t care if satan won a battle or three in your life…what you do with that loss is what I’m looking for… All any of us can do is just say we’re sorry AGAIN, and begin yet AGAIN, until one day, you move past that test…on to the next one…
I read a real variety of blogs out there, and it has been stated more than once that Christians don’t seem to lead very happy lives…Well, all I can say for those Christians that the writers have been watching…Good for you! Satan doesn’t bother with the ineffective Christians that offer no threat to his kingdom.
We, Christians, will all rest when our work here is done. In the meantime, we have a job to do, and I hope when outsiders look at my life, they’ll be amazed that I am still in one piece, day after day…
Fortune favors the brave, my friends!! I’ll rest when I’m dead!!

That is so true..*in my opinion* being an ineffective Christian is almost as bad as being lukewarm..the fact that I am attacked so frequently and am being thrown curve-balls from the left, right and down the middle..it assures me that I’m on the right path and that God’s got something awesome for me..otherwise why would we go through so much?!
Another great post Bird ❤

Oh my goodness Bird, I am with you on the “problems that show up in my house on a daily basis”. And yes, my peace and happiness comes from deeply trusting in Him. I have what I have now because of Him (yea I worked hard for it), but I owe everything to Him. I can’t tell you how many times I feel like giving up but then keep on fighting and holding on because of Him.
S thankful for this post. God bless you!

One of my absolute pet peeves is with the prosperity preachers…the ones in their fancy clothes with all the bling, driving cadillacs and flying in private jets…telling me to send them money and all that wealth and prosperity is going to be mine too. I do think sometimes God blesses us with things, and with money…but to whom much is given, much is required. The Bible doesn’t say a rich man can’t get to heaven, but that it’s harder for him to get to heaven than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. And I know why that is too…things and money are intoxicating…they can be idols that take our focus off of Him and become our gods. Anyway…ha ha…here you go getting me going on one of my rants again! 🙂 Thanks for another great blog Bird!

Girl you just brought out the praising church in a whole bunch of us! Being a Christian isn’t about being perfect…that is religion. Being a Christian means knowing we have sinned and need the Lord’s mercy and forgiveness. It doesn’t mean we are perfect, it means we know we have a need for the Lord everyday because we are human. I’ve heard all the stuff about Hal Lindsey too, and you know what…it means he is just like us…sinner saved by grace, and is still working at doing it God’s Way and not his own…just like we are. But when it comes to Bible Prophecy…he is the first to get my ear. You voiced what many of us would like to put in words, and you did it very well!

Oh and by the way…for all those bloggers that feel the need to comment that Christians don’t have very happy lives….do you have a happy life, or do you go through the same things we all do, loss, sadness, pain, anger, sickness, even death. Life isn’t different for any of us, and we all have to experience it. The only difference between us as Christians and you…we know that we have a Savior who will help us through, and we know that we have hope for a future free of the anguish in this life. In that is our joy based.

I have always believed that God, eternity, happiness, and happily ever after live INSIDE of us, not somewhere over the rainbow. If being good gets me to heaven, all the better. But being good makes me feel good TODAY, and that helps me radiate positive energy which gets shared with those around me. People shouldn’t be afraid of religion — they should make it a part of who they are, not something to achieve.
Thank you for your great insight. Have a great time living His way!

Wonderful post, Bird. I’m always leery when a sermon is preached on us having it all while we’re here…please. Where does that leave our image of heaven and a new earth? As a second place prize to the earthly things God so desperately wants us to have. We shouldn’t be so easily deceived.
Thanks again.

I agree with you absolutely!! Thanks for taking a minute to comment. And you bring up an excellent point — if we get everything we want here, what would be the purpose of laying up our treasures in heaven.. 🙂

Good for you Bird! I admire your spirit. I’m the opposite – no matter how calm I seem to be, inside things are constantly churning. I try very hard to not worry about things I can’t change. I try very hard to leave everything in God’s hands, but oh my! I fail time and again… And I do wish the devil would just give me a break! 🙂

Oh, Zelmare! I completely understand what you are saying. I, too, get overwhelmed. Just because I can be peaceful through some things, doesn’t mean I’m always peaceful. I have my bouts with being panicked as everything around me seems to be falling apart. You just have to put that magnificent brain of yours on neutral, decide to trust God, even if it isn’t the way you are feeling, and carry on, soldier. You are obviously a target, because you are a danger…Awesome! And satan hates our guts…he isn’t going to give you a break. Ask your Father instead for a little help… We all need a little R and R from time to time. 🙂

Hello, Bird. My husband and I make it very clear to people that being saved and being in the ministry doesn’t make us exempt from trials and tribulations. When you come to Christ you make the enemy mad and he’ll try to throw whatever he can at you to distract you from God’s promise. Many new Christians don’t understand that because these prosperity preachers teach them that as soon as they come to God that everything will be perfect. As soon as something goes wrong it confuses them– they blame God and want to leave Him. I am God’s daughter and I’m in God’s plan, and I know that all things work together for good. Whatever happens to me in my life can’t happen unless my Father allows it to. I thank Him for the unspeakable joy that only He can give and for His mercy and grace. Amen.

Well said!!! I love the fact that you reminded us that Jesus, while He stayed on Earth was definitely not treated like the King that he was. It’s a beautiful reminder that for some of the most beautiful things in this life and the one that will follow hereafter, we must sometimes face humiliation, pain, suffering, and other maladies, but those experiences will make us stronger. They will help us to better appreciate the good things that come to us in future. Thank you for sharing!!!!
